Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda
Here we are camped out in Granada Nicaragua! Geography lesson number one learned: Granada is not the same place as Grenada (which is what Dawn put on our customs form).
We are staying at the Oasis Hostel which is really nice although our room is a bit small.
This is the room–all of it. That is a queen size bed you see there with the wall on each side. We both cannot be standing in the room at the same time. It really is nice and clean other than our stuff everywhere so we can’t ask for more. And the free wireless broadband here is a real bonus too.
We apologize to all our friends and family for taking so long to post, but things were more hectic than we ever imagined leading up to our departure. Thanks to everyone who came out to our going away BBQ. And for those of you that were not there–I ate your hamburger.
So, we spent yesterday getting oriented and wandering around the city a bit. A few weeks before we left, there was a pretty good article in the New York Times on this area. It is run down, colorful, and friendly here.
Today we decided to dive into our first experience on the “chicken bus” as they call the local buses. I went back in time 30 years sitting on an old school bus heading towards Masaya for a volcano hike. Needless to say, we do not blend in with the locals being lily white with backpacks. I need to get a chicken to carry around with me.
Granada is great but not what we are looking for to unwind after the last few months. Tomorrow we are grabbing a shuttle to Laguna De Apoyo to check out that area. A lake in the crater of a volcano sounds like a nice place to spend some time unwinding.
