What's Happening

Panamanian Christmas

Dec 28th, 2007 by WanderingDawn | 1

We feel extremely fortunate this Christmas. We have been taken in by Sean’s friend from college, Jose, and his family, wife Ingrid, thirteen year old Jose Jr. (who I promised I would blog about later and refer to as Original Gangster Panamanian Dog or “OG P-Dog”), and two year old son Arturo.

On Christmas Eve OG P-Dog and I made some killer chocolate chip cookies. How many gangsters do you know that can make killer chocolate chip cookies? I was feeling a little blue from missing the cookie party at home, so P-Dog and I did our best to recreate the setting in Panama. We had a fantastic dinner (Ingrid is a great cook) and then at midnight people set off fireworks. Some displays rivaled professional shows in the states.

Christmas Day we went to a local river after opening presents. It was a great day, spent with great people.

So now let me tell you a bit more about OG P-Dog. Here he is in his mug shot after being extradited from Dubai as a member of their infamous gang along with a fellow inmate (aka his dad). Evidentially the thug life is alive and well in one of the world’s most wealthy cities. It’s tough when college education is free in Dubai and there are no drugs, alcohol, or a single ho around to slap. What’s an OG to do?

Here he is chillin’ poolside at his Panamanian crib, sippin’ on gin and juice (aka water), laid back, with his mind on his money and his money on his mind.

Here he is with his new Christmas bling bling, giving us his gang sign. Sean thought this was some kind of new gay pride salute but was quickly corrected by a bitch slap. Watch out, homies!

Jose Senior is an English teacher. He and his family spent a few years in Dubai where he taught English. His son (P-Dog) and wife learned an incredible amount of English while they were there. We have been speaking mostly English in the house, but with the extended family we are practicing our Spanish. This little guy I call Professor as he has been teaching me English.

Although he taught me the “cloth of window” is a curtain, and a sheet is a “cloth of bed”, so I had to relearn some of his teachings, but I am still learning. We have just struck up a deal with Jose to start speaking Spanish in the house a few hours a day so we learn more. We are hoping by the time we head to South America to be able to hold a conversation that does not translate “me hungry, where food?”
