What's Happening

Thank You, Pacsafe!

Before we left for our trip, Sean and I did a lot of research. We researched everything from where we wanted to go, costs, visas, backpacks, and day bags. One of the things we discovered was Pacsafe. Pacsafe has all sorts of luggage, money belts, day bags, etc. We each purchased a Pacsafe bag, Sean a PacSafe backpackand me a Pacsafe metrobag. After yesterday I have to say this was money well spent.

Sean and I were strolling around Old Town Quito yesterday doing a self-guided walking tour. We were nearing the end of our tour, with Sean walking closer to the street and me closest to the buildings. As we were walking I felt a slight pressure on my bag. I wheeled around to face a girl directly behind me. She grabbed her leg, and limped away, as if I had hit her when I turned around. Sean asked me what happened and I said I think that girl tried to get into my purse. Sure enough, when I looked at my bag, one of the zippers was halfway unzipped. One of the nice things about the Pacsafe bag is that the zippers either lock shut or tuck into fabric, making them harder to unzip. She had gotten hold of one tucked into fabric, but because of the fabric, I felt the tug as she unzipped it.

I was so mad, watching her limp around the corner, and then miraculously be cured as she met with a fellow “ladron” and walked down the street. Then I realized I should be happy, not mad. Pacsafe had saved the day.

When we got back to the hostel that night, I repacked my bag to really maximize it’s safety features. I have gotten lax at times, and yesterday’s events taught me it is better for me to be inconvenienced by an extra couple seconds to undo the safety locks than loose my money to some thief on the street. Quito is infamous for its pickpockets, so the added security is worth it.

Thank you, Pacsafe!

Just a note, we had not realized people were commenting on our pictures until today. We are a little slow out of the gate, for example we are still editing our packing list to connect to Amazon. So to everyone who has commented the last three months, thank you! And from now on we will check for comments.
