Fancy A Pamper?
Bali is full of spas, massage joints, and reflexology. All of these services are a fraction of the cost in the US. I was excited about the possibility of a massage, and when WS saw the price he wanted to go too.
We got a recommendation for a spa from fellow travelers Claudio and Kirsten. We arrived, set for a massage, body scrub, and flower bath. AND they do it in a joint room. Sounds romantic, right? For $25USD for both of us for 3 hours, the price was right as well.
We entered the room, were told to undress, and were given those disposable underwear to put on. WS held his up, and likened it to a shower cap with holes cut in for your legs. It looked more like a baggy Speedo to me, but the giggles had begun.
As we got our massage, I tried to relax and not giggle. I had just got into a nice relaxed state when WS asked the woman if they had any other music. Apparently the same song had been playing the last forty minutes. I had not noticed, but WS was tuned in. Now I was giggling again as WS pleaded his case for new music (he did not win).
“HE HE” I heard from the table next to me, “OH AH!” as WS jumped around while the poor woman tried to massage his feet.
The massage finished and the scrub began. I could hear grunts from the next table as the scrub removed all of WS’ dead skin–and leg hair. After the scrub we were covered in yogurt. Yup, that’s right, yogurt. It felt like it came right out of the fridge. This brought yelps and more “OH AH’s!” from WS. I could not stop laughing. So there we were, covered in yogurt, laughing uncontrollably while the women looked at each other in wonder.
WS finished first and they told him to go shower. The shower is in the same room with no door. Ahem, okay, so he showered with his shower cap Speedos on until my yogurt scrub was finished. By the time I joined him his Speedos looked like a kid’s diaper after a trip to the pool. We laughed and laughed until the ladies left us alone to shower and to dispose of the disposables.
After leaving the spa, we felt great. Was it the massage, the scrub, or all the laughter? Maybe it was a combination of all of it. But I do know one thing, if you want a quiet day at the spa, DO NOT go with WS.
